The faculty is comprised of professional artists/teachers, many of whom work in the Oklahoma Arts Council Artist-in-Residence Program. They bring to Artworks decades of experience and the varied background of visual art schools and performing arts schools. The Faculty will include:
Rhonda Clark, Theatre
Rhonda Clark is the Artistic Director for Carpenter Square Theatre at Stage Center, and has worked as an Artist-in-Residence with the Oklahoma Arts Council for over 25 years. She has conducted drama residencies and workshops all over the state, but lives in Oklahoma City. In addition to Carpenter Square, she has directed for Oklahoma Children's Theatre, OK Shakespeare in the Park and Jewel Box Theatre, among others. Rhonda and fellow faculty member, Doobie Potter, are members of the commedia-style touring theatre ZAP! - The Zany Arts Players, which is affiliated with the Oklahoma Arts Council's Touring Program. She has worked with Artworks since its inception in 1988. |
Doobie Potter, Theatre
Doobie Potter has been acting, directing and teaching in Oklahoma for several different theatres, schools and camps since moving to the Oklahoma City area in 1979. She moved here from Wisconsin with her husband, Joe Long, where they were both members of the Wisconsin Mime Company. Doobie has been an Artist-in-Residence for the Oklahoma Arts Council since 1980. She is a member of two performing groups associated with the Oklahoma Arts Council Touring Program. Along with Rhonda Clark, Doobie has taught at Artworks since its inception in 1988. Together they have written and produced 40 plays with Artworks campers. Doobie is also a national award-winning director. |
Glen Woods, Music
Glen Woods holds a bachelor's degree in music from the University of Oklahoma. His major instrument is trumpet. While at OU, Glen was a member of the Men's Glee Club, OU Marching Band, the University Symphonic Band and the University Orchestra (viola). After graduation, Glen served in the US Army for four years. While in the Army, he organized and directed a dance band that was employed on a nightly basis for eighteen months. After completing his enlistment, Glen returned to Norman and owned and operated Pinocchio's Restaurants until 2002. He is certified in Kodaly and is presently teaching general music, vocal music and band at Wheeler Community Learning Center in Oklahoma City. He also directs children's choirs, adult choirs and bell choirs at his church. Glen's teaching integrates vocal and instrumental music. He is energetic and strives for a happy, positive and thrilling experience in music. Glen joined the Artworks faculty in 2003. |
Adrienne Day, Visual Arts
Adrienne Day has taught Visual Arts at Artworks since 1996. She is active as both artist and educator, teaching for the last 17 years in schools, museums and community centers around the state as an artist in residence. She teaches art at Blanchard Elementary and Intermediate schools, and printmaking at Oklahoma City University. She holds an MFA from Arizona State University and a BFA from The University of Oklahoma. Her artwork has been exhibited extensively in juried and invitational shows across the country, and is included in many permanent collections, including the Fred Jones Museum of Art, World Neighbors, the Haarman and Rheimer Corporation of Germany, the Corcoran Gallery in Washington DC, and 20 university collections. |
Tonya Kilburn, Dance
Tonya Kilburn is an accomplished dance artist, as a performer, instructor and choreographer. She holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of Oklahoma. As a Roster Artist for the Oklahoma State Arts Council, her spirited residencies involve creative movement and basic modern dance techniques. She performed professionally with Oklahoma's first modern dance company, Prairie Dance Theatre for numerous seasons. Currently she presides as their Artistic Director and has created PDT's first ever youth company.
For Tonya, dance is more than just a performance art; it is a life-long vehicle for giving back to the community and touching lives that might not otherwise be touched. Tonya works in all dance forms but is especially enthusiastic about Modern Dance, Creative Movement, Folk Dance, Social Dance, and Yoga. |
Becky Clinton, Director
Becky Clinton, a graduate of East Central Oklahoma State University, began her arts administrative experience in 1987 when she was named Executive Director of the Harrison Academy for the Performing Arts. She started Artworks in Oklahoma City in 1988 and co-founded the Norman Children's Chorus in 1992. After leaving the Harrison Academy, she recruited a board of directors and incorporated the Children's Arts Network, which serves as umbrella organization for arts programs for children in central Oklahoma. She serves as the on-site director of Artworks and the Executive Director of Children's Arts Network. She earned administrative training certificates from Arts Management in Community Institutions in Boston and from Chorus America in Philadelphia. In the spring of 2006, she was named Norman Volunteer of the Year for her service to youth and education. In 2008, she received the Governor's Arts Award for service to arts and education. |
