Students may arrive as early as 7:30 AM for extended hours. The camp day begins at 9:00 AM with a full day of activities for children.
Students are greeted at the door by a teacher who directs them to the assembly room. Announcements are made, the Artworks song is sung and sometimes campers are treated to a surprise performance. The tone is set for a fun, productive day!
Students then go to the class that they have selected as their major where they study dance, visual arts or theatre. A period of outdoor games follows (planned and led by a teacher) and then the children eat their sack lunch on the deck, weather permitting.
The afternoon schedule includes two additional arts classes. The children may choose dance, music, visual arts or theatre. The class schedule allows every child to experience three different disciplines. Visual arts may be chosen twice, but the other disciplines only once. There is another outdoor recreation period in the afternoon, in addition to a snack and surprise kids activities. The surprise sometimes is a guest performer, a walking field trip or a special one-time art, dance or mime class.
Class sizes vary based on the type of activity. An art class may be as small as 8 or 10 and a music class may have as many as 20.
The day ends at 3:50 with all students back in the assembly room for announcements and then up to the lobby for pick-up at 4:00 PM. Students who stay for extended hours remain in the assembly room until their parents arrive. Students may be picked up as late as 5:30 PM.
